A Heap of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season

The Yuletide season offer a multitude of activities much better than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and using deep breathing to not arguing with family members. I hope you managed to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting announcements came out over the holidays, and if you missed any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)

Truly the most shocking revelation, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to halt the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they are probably mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season

Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has yet to be revealed.
