Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, officials in Lagos confirmed on Wednesday night. The athlete was part of a serious road collision near Lagos on December 29th, a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two of his team members.
The boxer had been receiving medical attention while healing from his light wounds, his promoter stated earlier on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post on social media that Joshua was declared medically stable to leave and heal privately.
“The boxer and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two deceased friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” the official remarked.
Those who lost their lives were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a conditioning specialist. The official further stated that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and full of emotions over the passing of his two close friends.”
His release from the hospital comes as the global fight fans offered condolences for the star in the following the terrible crash.
