Former President Donald Trump was given a regal greeting on Monday in Japan, the next stop of a five-day Asia trip which he aims to conclude with an agreement on a trade war truce with China's leader Xi Jinping.
The former president, making his lengthiest overseas trip since beginning his term in January, revealed deals with multiple Asian nations during the first stop in Malaysia and is projected to have talks with Xi in Seoul on later this week.
President Trump exchanged greetings with representatives on the airport runway and offered a multiple enthusiastic motions, before his aircraft carried him away for a picturesque evening excursion of the metropolitan city. His official vehicles was afterwards spotted arriving at the emperor's residence, where he had discussions with Japanese emperor Naruhito.
Trump has secured a $550-billion investment pledge from Japan in exchange for respite from heavy trade duties.
Japan's recently appointed premier, Sanae Takaichi, is hoping to continue to please Trump with commitments to purchase US utility vehicles, legumes and gas, and declare an deal on vessel manufacturing.
The prime minister, who assumed the role of Japan's pioneering female leader in the past seven days, told Trump that strengthening their countries' alliance was her "top priority" in a telephone call on Saturday.
Trump said he was eagerly awaiting encountering Japan's leader, a key partner of his late friend and golf companion, former prime minister former PM Abe, adding: "I think she will prove outstanding."
Additionally, Donald Trump declared he would eliminate running for the vice-presidency in the 2028 presidential race, an concept some of his supporters have proposed to permit the GOP leader to hold office an extra period in the White House.
