Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m season with a win at the all-female Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the World Championships recently, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year affected by a muscle issue.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was probably easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.

"The environment out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only event packed Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to present the victors with their tiaras.

Previous champions received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The event also attracted several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
