Much like the recent storm hit the northern region the previous evening, Manchester City blew Manchester United away at the their home ground. It was a statement three goal triumph for Andrée Jeglertz’s side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their leadership claims as they consolidated their standing at the league summit.
This outcome marked back-to-back WSL losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since spring 2024, leaving them seven points off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions severely dented.
The Red Devils' capacity to juggle league and continental football with a thin team has been a hotly discussed subject since they secured entry to the European competition. Reviewing the calendar, it always seemed this was the period that would truly test this capability.
