Micky van de Ven Brace Halts Everton's Unbeaten Streak at New Stadium

The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Spurs prolonged their winning streak in away games in the top division and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from set-pieces in the first half to put their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are half a dozen points clear of the drop zone.

After a uninspiring midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank chose the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his second in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defence, combining well with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the novelty may have faded slightly and fans flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a massive worry for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal between them before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a simpler shot that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, as well, failed to make an impact after replacing Beto in the 65th minute.

It was not for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Tottenham box.
