Tetris Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any prominent prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a clamor for introducing fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait 35 years.
