Craig Bellamy states the English player pool is remarkable that a boxing promoter would not match them against the Welsh team.

Bellamy's men face England in a friendly at the national stadium on Thursday before their crucial qualifying match against Belgium next the following week.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has left the likes of Bellingham, Phil Foden and Grealish from his squad for the Wales friendly and their qualifying game against Latvia.

"The English have a ridiculous team, similar to the French," the coach said.

"They have a market valuation of 1.4 billion pounds, Wales' is 170 million. If you were a boxing promoter, you would not match us up. That wouldn't be permitted."

Bellamy says ensuring Wales can compete with the star-studded rivals is a "key motivation".

Bellamy added: "We don't go off values, but the simple fact is they have more than one team. They have two, three, four and France and others have the same level. They have many top talents and that's a fact."

"One right-back went out injured the recently and there's only two dozen others to choose from! They've got over sixty footballers. I wish us to be well-equipped similarly."

These two nations most recently met at the 2022 World Cup in the Middle East, when England emerged as comfortable 3-0 winners in a group match before the previous England team made it to the last eight.

The new manager is Thomas Tuchel, a European and world club champion at Chelsea who has claimed league championships in Ligue 1 and his native Germany.

The Welsh boss was formerly an coach at the Belgian side and the English club to Kompany, who succeeded Tuchel at Bayern Munich.

"He's an incredible coach - his achievements speak for themselves," he added.

"I possess some sort of insight because the club he left I know people who have gone in there. I gain a glimpse from that of how he works and it's remarkable. "

"His tactical detail is elite and I wanted to be up against that - see how you're going to adapt because he adapts too. I can learn from that. I aspire to reach such heights."
