Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found plenty of interesting independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is literally a dung striving to travel to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty stages, battle boss fights and visit a shop to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.
Execute your actions with caution, since one wrong move requires beginning again. Jump on bubbles to launch yourself higher, traverse fragile surfaces, and interact with triggers to open new areas. Earn UN-KOINS to purchase tougher stages where gameplay intensifies.
In terms of design, the game features eye-catching stages and catchy soundtrack. The retro visual style of moving geometric shapes may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to name similar titles where you control a dung character, gaming frequently incorporated toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. Naturally, such content shows up a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already received significant recognition, such as winning at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on Steam in the fall.
